Looking Back Before the Conference: Part 6
Here is the sixth look-back video we are sharing from our Making Noise Media Project, which has unfolded over the past three years.
This video is entitled “Don’t Believe the Hype”. The December 2008 edition of Toronto Life featured the story of Aqsa Parvez, a young Muslim girl who was killed in her home in Mississauga the previous winter (torontolife.com/features/girl-interrupted/). While featuring Aqsa’s story was a recognition of a young woman’s life cut tragically short, the Toronto Life article perpetuated common stereotypes about Muslim and immigrant communities, diverting attention from the urgent issue of violence against women across Canada. This video was produced by the Freedom Youth Collective. As always, please feel free to share your thoughts with us.
